Ok, so Randy and I have thought a lot about Sunday lunches lately. The goal in 2008 is to have a very definite and consistent schedule of weekly lunches (every Sunday but First Sunday). We really enjoy it and also hope it will be something that benefits CTK in some way.
With that in mind we want it to "fit" us and we also want it to be sustainable long-term. A light bulb sort of went off the other day. We really think the lunch should be a "young adult" lunch. I don't mean it should be an "exclusive" ministry or even something advertised. We talked about it, and both agree that it should be a consisted, word of mouth lunch geared toward college and career folk. Even though we love kids, it is definitely true that our house isn't really geared toward kids. If families do show up... GREAT! But we aren't going to market it that way.
I think this type of fellowship is geared toward college and career folks. Free food, common-ground conversation, lots of laughs, and complete flexibility. The truth is we wouldn't kick any of you guys out. If you stayed all afternoon for football and cigars... so be it. If you came late and had dinner with us, great! If you came for 15 minutes to eat and run, even better!
So anyway I wanted you guys to know what we were thinking. Do any of you have ideas and or feedback?

This sounds great. I love the idea of something consistent, but also try to spread the word about what's expected: if Sunday will always be spaghetti or not, and what should we bring?
Also... cigars sounds great. As does beer (which you didn't mention, but I'll take for granted).
I'm looking forward to this being a constant in the life of CTK and something that I can invite whomever to (especially Cindy and Gillian).
That sounds great to me too. I cannot think of a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon. I think it is a good idea to gear it towards the young adult age-as long as there can be honorary young adults (like Bruce Johnson) at times. Nicotene is also important for conversation, so I like the cigar idea. Looking forward to Sunday!
Thanks for the feedback guys, you're great!
I like the idea of minimizing the chaos component, though I definitely enjoy having families there, too. I guess my opinion is, you should do whatever is sustainable for you.
Looking forward to Sunday!
And to clarify, every week will eat a Spaghetti Lunch. If you feel compelled to bring something we could use:
Beverages of any sort
Dessert
Veggies or Salad
And if you want to donate a box of spag or sauce sometimes, you can. But you certainly don't have to!
And just because I'm interested, do you guys think we should put this in the bulletin or on the power point one Sunday. If we did, it would be advertised something like:
Spaghetti Lunch for Young Adults every Sunday (EXCEPT First Sunday) @ the Budnikas home. Directions and details on the info table
